    wilderness

Sportsman's Lodge is located in a fantastic wilderness setting north of Red Lake, Ontario. On the shores of Little Vermilion Lake, the lodge is accessible only by float plane. Little Vermilion Lake is famous for trophy-sized Northern Pike. Walleye fishing is also excellent. We are the only lodge on the lake, so we provide a clean, uncomplicated, unpolluted, relaxing atmosphere. We are dedicated to offering our guests excellent fishing and/or hunting, top service, the finest equipment, warm hospitality, and reasonable rates.

  • lodgeSportsman’s Lodge is not a large, fancy, resort-style facility with all the fast paced activities normally associated with such an operation. Sportsman’s Lodge is a small, clean, family-operated camp, dedicated to offering our guests excellent fishing and / or hunting, top service, the finest equipment, warm hospitality, reasonable rates and a relaxing atmosphere.
  • comfortsOh yes - we do have a few modern comforts such as wireless Internet access, telephone, 24-hour a day electricity from our generators, television, an ice-making machine, etc., but basically, we are just what the name implies - a spot where the Sportsman can get back to nature and enjoy outstanding fishing or hunting, in a clean, uncomplicated, unpolluted and relaxing environment.
  • OutpostTry one of our three outpost camps for a true adventure. Just you, your friends, a beautiful lake and fishing all day long. The fly-in outposts are north of the main lodge on Hornell Lake, Mantricia Lake, and Warrington Lake. All of our outposts offer spectacular fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike and outstanding scenery.

  • release
In the interest of further increasing our guests potential to catch trophy pike, we have enhanced our catch & release policy, which we initiated in 1982.

Now all Pike over 35.5” (100%) will be released, assuring continued world class, high end, trophy pike production for our future generations.

7/23/2011 - Scott, Bud, & Jerry

Two and a half years ago Jerry asked me to plan a "Guy's Trip" because I have done that sort of thing before.  I had planned the trip for August of 2010, but due to scheduling conflicts that happened Bud and Jerry were unable to go.  When Bud saw the pictures and videos I took on the 2010 trip he confessed he made the wrong choice of not going.  Fast Forward to 2011, and we had the trip to Sportsman's Lodge scheduled again.

Jerry has not really been fishing for 30+ years, and Bud who is an avid Catfish fisherman had not been to Canada for Walleye or Northern.  We all had a GREAT time the week we were there.  Had we been a week earlier or later we would have dealt with much warmer weather (90 degree plus).  We had very little issue catching our Lunch and Dinner while we were there.  Jerry caught a 35.5" Northern which is currently the biggest fish he has ever caught.

Our shore lunch at Table Rock was a real surprise for Bud and Jerry.  All we brought with us was Aluminum foil, seasonings, tortilla, and cheese.  After building a fire in the fire pit at Table Rock we made some really great fish tacos.

Bud is also a pretty good photographer and captured several photos of things I normally overlook.  Take the time to browse our album on the site.  I especially like sunrise photo at Red Lake.

I have not been home a week yet and already want to go back.  Guess it is time to start planning my 2012 trip!
